Every December firefighters and members of the Youth Academy spend a day outside each of the major grocery stores in Maple Ridge and collect food and cash in support of the Friends In Need Food Bank and the Christmas Hamper Society...

Homeless people aren't the only ones who are hungry in this province. The working poor are also finding it increasingly hard to make ends meet and put food on the table, and the number of people needing help from Metro Vancouver food banks is skyrocketing.

These are hard times for these times and the Friends in Need Food Bank is seeing that walk through its doors every day.
As the economy slumps, the number of people claiming a monthly hamper of food necessities is climbing – by 30 per cent in the last three months.
